The Patents and Trade Marks Law provides only for registration of trademarks previously registered in the U.K., or as a CTM, with extension of identical rights in Cayman Islands. Thus, no purely local trademark applications can be filed in Cayman.

Service marks are registrable in Cayman Islands since 1986 but only via an application to extend a U.K. registered mark or CTM, as above. No local use or intent to use is necessary. International (Paris Convention) priority is not available. The registration term is coterminous with the underlying U.K. or CTM registration and is renewable for like periods based upon renewal of the U.K  or CTM registration.

Cayman Islands are unique in the Commonwealth Caribbean in requiring payment of a government annual fee to maintain each trademark registration within the jurisdiction. This fee of U.S. $61.

Authorization of Agent form requires no witnesses, no notarization and no legalization.
